Dr Ben Ng is a senior consultant endocrinologist in Singapore with over 20 years of clinical experience. He is the Director of Arden Endocrinology Specialist Clinic, consulting at Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre and at Royal Square Medical Centre in Novena. He sees patients with diabetes, thyroid disorders, obesity and weight-related conditions, osteoporosis, and adrenal, pituitary and reproductive hormone concerns. His clinical focus is metabolic health, including insulin resistance, fatty liver and the early stages of glucose intolerance.
Dr Ben Ng specialises in diabetes mellitus and metabolic health, thyroid disorders, obesity and weight management, osteoporosis, and general endocrinology covering adrenal, pituitary and reproductive hormone conditions. He holds UK Certificates of Completion of Training in both Diabetes and Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine, and consults at two clinic locations in Novena, Singapore.
Dr Ben Ng graduated in medicine from Queen’s University Belfast, United Kingdom. He completed his postgraduate specialist training in the United Kingdom and was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training by the Royal College of Physicians, with accreditation in both Diabetes and Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine.
He trained at centres including the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast and Hull Royal Infirmary, working alongside endocrinologists including Professors Eric Kilpatrick, Brew Atkinson, David Hadden and Stephen Atkin. He was subsequently awarded a research sabbatical at the University of Hull, where he completed research in diabetes mellitus and was awarded an MD with honours in 2010.
Dr Ben returned to Singapore in 2011 and practised as a Consultant Endocrinologist at Changi General Hospital. During this period he was appointed Assistant Adjunct Professor (Research) at Duke-NUS Medical School and served as a clinical tutor with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
Dr Ben’s practice centres on insulin resistance, fatty liver, and the early stages of glucose intolerance. Patients often consult him because their weight has become difficult to manage, or because borderline blood sugar levels and fatty liver were picked up during routine screening. His approach is to identify the underlying metabolic driver first, then work through practical strategies that the patient can sustain over the long term.
He has a particular interest in early-stage disease, Type 1 diabetes, and patients who require intensive insulin therapy. He is experienced in the use of insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring.
He is trained in thyroid ultrasound and fine needle aspiration biopsy, with an interest in autoimmune thyroid disease and thyroid disorders in pregnancy.
During his training in the United Kingdom, Dr Ben was involved in the Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating (DAFNE) programme, a structured education programme for patients with Type 1 diabetes
Building on this experience, he developed the Living with Diabetes: Diet and Lifestyle (LiDDLe) programme after returning to Singapore. The programme was adapted for Asian diets and lifestyles, is conducted in collaboration with the University of Chester, and has been implemented at Changi General Hospital.
Dr Ben has presented over 30 posters and oral presentations at scientific conferences and has published in peer-reviewed international journals. His research has been cited in over 100 scientific articles, and he has received research grants from organisations including Diabetes UK, the Ministry of Health Singapore, and SingHealth.
He has been invited to speak at meetings across the region, including in Taipei, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, China, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia.
