Dr Ben Ng graduated from Queen’s University Belfast, United Kingdom. He completed his postgraduate training in the UK and was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) by the Royal College of Physicians, with dual accreditation in Diabetes and Endocrinology as well as General Internal Medicine. In 2010, he was awarded an MD with honours by the University of Hull for his research in diabetes mellitus.
Upon returning to Singapore in 2011, Dr Ben worked as a Consultant Endocrinologist at Changi General Hospital for three years. During this time, he was appointed Assistant Adjunct Professor (Research) at Duke-NUS Medical School (2014–2024) and served as a clinical tutor under the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
Dr Ben manages a broad range of endocrine conditions, with a particular focus on metabolic health, including insulin resistance, early glucose intolerance, and weight-related concerns. His clinical work spans diabetes, obesity, thyroid disorders, and diseases affecting the adrenal, pituitary, and reproductive systems.
In diabetes care, he has a strong interest in early-stage disease, Type 1 diabetes, and patients requiring intensive insulin therapy. He is experienced in the use of insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring systems. In thyroid care, he is trained in thyroid ultrasound and fine needle aspiration biopsy, with a particular interest in autoimmune thyroid disease and thyroid disorders in pregnancy.
During his training in the UK, Dr Ben was involved in the Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating (DAFNE) programme, a structured education programme for patients with Type 1 diabetes. Building on this experience, he developed the Living with Diabetes: Diet and Lifestyle (LiDDLe) programme after returning to Singapore. This programme, adapted for Asian diets and lifestyles, is conducted in collaboration with University of Chester and has been implemented at Changi General Hospital.
As an accredited diabetes physician in Singapore, Dr Ben has also been actively involved in community health initiatives. He previously served as Programme Director for the Eastern Community Health Outreach (ECHO), a community-based programme aimed at reducing the incidence of diabetes in East Singapore.
